Howard has lived in Warwick, New York and taught physical geography at Ramapo College for 25 years. Author of “Close to the Ground,” a book of tree planting poems, he has been creating “wordmaps,” large-scale cartographic works that visually integrate geography, history, and poetry. “Manhattan,” originally published in the New York Times, Other wordmaps include “The Oregon Coast,” The Wallkill River,” and “The Reading Prong
